The cuisine of Srem has the characteristics of classic Serbian cuisine, which is still very specific due to the presence of other peoples in this area. It was formed as a reflection of geographical characteristics and social events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diet and preparation of food in Srem was greatly influenced by the arrival of Germans. They brought their dishes, customs, ways of preparing winter preserve, wine, fruit and vine growing, so the Serbian population adopted the lot. Also, in Srem, there is a great influence and wealth of culinary knowledge of the Hungarian, Romanian and Slovak cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The influence can be seen in the names of many dishes that have been preserved to this day. From the German language there are names: fru\u0161tuk &#8211; breakfast (<em>das Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck<\/em>), jauzna &#8211; snack (<em>die Jause<\/em>), for\u0161pajz &#8211; appetizer (<em>die Vorspiese<\/em>), rinflaj\u0161 &#8211; beef (<em>die Rindfleisch<\/em>), cu\u0161pajz &#8211; stew (<em>die Zuspeise<\/em>), while from Hungarian remained perklet\/meat fried in its own sauce (P\u00f6rk\u00f6lt), goulash (<em>guly\u00e1s<\/em>), paprika\u0161 (<em>paprik\u00e1s<\/em>), etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"490\" data-id=\"508\" src=\"http:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h4-770x490-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h4-770x490-1.jpg 770w, https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h4-770x490-1-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h4-770x490-1-768x489.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"490\" data-id=\"509\" src=\"http:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h3-770x490-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h3-770x490-1.jpg 770w, https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h3-770x490-1-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/h3-770x490-1-768x489.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salty specialties, such as soups, sauces, dough and pasta, goulash, perkelt, but also sarma, stuffed peppers, moussaka, beans, fish dishes, grilled and baked dishes, but also many Srem desserts, such as: donuts, strudel, gomboce, various pies and kouglofs in numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/restaurants\/\">restaurants<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/indjijatravel.rs\/eng\/farms\/\">isolated farms<\/a> (sala\u0161) in the municipality of In\u0111ija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wine<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The tradition of viticulture and wine production in Srem and Fru\u0161ka Gora dates back to the Roman period. Although it is believed that vines were grown by the Illyrians in the Pannonian Plain, and thus in Srem, the beginning of the development of viticulture in this area is associated with the Romans and Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus, who lifted a two-century ban on wine production in the Roman provinces and planted the first vine in this area, not far from Sirmium (today&#8217;s Sremska Mitrovica).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Italian Riesling is the most widely grown white variety in the area of \u200b\u200bSrem, followed by Traminer, Sauvignon, Sila, Rhine Riesling etc. Of the black grape varieties, Frankish, Portugieser, Merlot, Probus, Pinot Noir and others are mostly grown here. The Fru\u0161ka Gora cellars also produce the only dessert wine in Serbia &#8211; bermet (sweet, fragrant, aromatic wine that resembles Italian vermouth).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visits to wineries have become an unavoidable part of tourist tours.
